SWAC is responsible for participating in preparation of a revised solid waste management plan. The SWAC recommendations included in the plan will become a guide for County decision-makers.
SWAC participation is particularly important in development of the waste reduction,
reuse and recycling elements in the plan.
SWAC is also required by state law to dedicate meeting time to determine how local private for-profit,
or not-for-profit, recycling and solid waste collection businesses may participate
in recycling programs.
Waste management plans should be prepared
"...with the active assistance and participation of a local SWAC."
A good SWAC represents a broad range of community interests, and works toward a plan
that is responsive to all. - RCW 70.95.165
