Thursday, Jun 14 2012 - With school out, summer arriving and the onset of the tourist season, San Juan County Sheriff Rob Nou has announced that his department is stepping up the enforcement of traffic laws.

"Traffic concerns and traffic safety becomes an issue for our island communities especially at this time of year. We all pride ourselves on the safety of the islands, and the relaxed pace."

Nou said that Deputies will be on the lookout for impaired drivers, speeding drivers, distracted drivers (cell phones), and unrestrained occupants of motor vehicles.

"We will be working hard to keep our islands safe and to prevent a tragedy," said Nou.
