San Juan County Voter Turnout Tops in the State

The San Juan County Canvassing Board has certified the results of the November general election in San Juan County.  Voter turnout in the county was 89.39% - less than the 91.49% turnout in the 2008 Presidential election, but once again the highest in the State.
County Auditor Milene Henley said that the three significant charter propositions, three Council member elections, a local citizen initiative, and the state referendum on same-sex marriage all helped to turn out the vote.  She also suggested that the marijuana initiative may have further encouraged a high voter turnout.
