TIME FOR NEW LEADERSHIP ON COURTHOUSE BUILDING
Prosecutor Randall K. Gaylord resigned his post as chair of the County Law and Justice Council on Monday April 7, 2003. AIt is time for others to take the lead on the courthouse building project,@ said Gaylord. Gaylord will continue to serve as a member of the Law and Justice Council.
Judge Stewart Andrew was elected to serve as the Chair for the remainder of 2003. He said AI will carry on the Law and Justice Council leadership on the courthouse issue. The need for the office space and second courtroom is urgent.@
The Law and Justice Council is a collection of elected officials and department heads and others responsible for the administration of the courts and justice system in the County. It includes the Prosecutor, Sheriff, District Court Judge, Superior Court Judge, Commissioners, Administrative Services Director, Juvenile Court Services Administrator, Probation Officials, a Town Council Member, and a Bar Association Member.
As chair of the Law and Justice Council, Gaylord has assumed the leadership role on evaluating the needs and method for addressing office space and courtrooms in Friday Harbor. AWe did what we thought was right. We looked at county government as a whole and not just our group or our individual offices,@ said Gaylord.
According to Gaylord, there are only two decisions that need to be made on the courthouse project: First, what is the budget for Phase I of the project? Second, what will be the source of repayment of bonds for the project. AOnly the Commissioners can answer these questions,@ said Gaylord.
Judge Andrew praised Gaylord for his work on the courthouse building project. AUntil the Commissioners take action, the need for this project will not go away,@ he added.
