Candidate Information

Candidate filing week begins the Monday two weeks before Memorial Day and ends the following Friday. Candidates who wish to run for public office in San Juan County have the option of filing a Declaration of Candidacy online, in person or by mail. If you are interested in filing for public office and have questions, contact the Elections Office during normal business hours.

When can I file for office?


  • Candidates may submit a declaration of candidacy by mail starting May 3
  • In person filing begins May 17, 8 am
  • Online filing begins May 17, 9 am
  • Online filing ends May 21, 4 pm
  • All candidate filings ends May 21, 4:30 pm
  • Last day to withdraw from ballot May 24, 4:30 pm
       If you decide to withdraw from your campaign, even if you are too late to
       remove your name from the ballot, you may need to file paperwork to
       terminate your campaign with the Public Disclosure Commission.

       statement.
