Thank you for your interest in employment with San Juan County. San Juan County has over 200 employees including 12 elected officials and 9 appointed department heads. Vacancies occur throughout the year. Employment opportunities can be viewed online and are also published in two local newspapers: The Journal and The Islands' Sounder.

Applications for employment are accepted for advertised vacancies only and must be received by the closing date. Interested applicants may submit a resume and cover letter electronically or by mail.  If you do not have a resume, please use our on-line employment application. If you need some additional space for former employers, you may also download a Supplemental Employment History Form. If you are unable to download the application you may request an application packet be mailed to you.

Sheriff's Deputy or Dispatcher Employment

Civil Service rules govern the hiring of candidates for both Deputy and Dispatcher positions. Testing services for Dispatcher and entry-level Deputy positions are provided through Public Safety Testing, Inc. Interested persons are encouraged to contact Public Safety Testing, Inc. online or directly at 1-866-HIRE911.

Lateral Deputy Applications are accepted at any time, directly by the Civil Service Commission, and rankings are adjusted with each new application. For civil service employment information in the Sheriff's Office, email Civil Service or call 360-378-4657.
