[ARCHIVED] San Juan County Now Accepting Accessory Dwelling Unit Applications

San Juan County Department of Community Development (DCD) is now accepting eligibility applications for detached Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU) permits proposed outside of urban growth areas and activity centers.  ADU eligibility applications must be received no later than 4:30 pm February 12, 2018.   In 2018, there are 10 permits for the construction of new ADUs and 2 permits for the conversion of existing accessory structures, legally in existence for five years. DCD will hold a lottery if the number of eligibility applications exceeds the number of ADUs allowed in 2018.

DCD’s ADU eligibility application form must be completed and submitted to DCD along with the fee of $245. This form is available online at http://sanjuanco.com/638/Accessory-Dwelling-Unit-Information, or at 135 Rhone St, Friday Harbor.

Complete applications including the fee must be submitted to DCD in person at DCD’s office during business hours, Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4:30 pm (except holidays), at 135 Rhone Street, Friday Harbor, Washington, or by mail to P.O. Box 947, 98250.

If needed, the open public lottery will take place on March 5, 2018. The exact time and place will be noted on the DCD website ten days prior to the drawing. Applications received after February 12 are ineligible for the lottery, but will be added to a wait list.
